Life:Still

I am very happy to introduce my new body of photographic work entitled Life:Still. I have been hard at work on creating these latest pieces, with more to come in the near future. I am offering them for sale on my website in Limited Edition original prints. The print run for these is only going to be 100 signed, dated and numbered originals of each piece, and will be sold both online and offline.
I’d love to hear what you think about the collection. I’m off to work on my art journal, custom pieces and some new offerings for the Spring Collection. Have a fabulous evening!

Weapons of Choice…

One of my beloved vintage cameras – Kodak Duaflex II
I finally got the opportunity to update the Photography section of my shop today. I posted some new pics up for sale and over the next few days will be posting more. Original prints are available in several sizes, some are limited editions and will only have one printing run, so if you see something you like be sure to place an order.
I have also received several emails asking what lenses and equipment I use, so i figure now would be a good time to post about my tools of the trade. The majority of my shots from last year were taken with my Canon Powershot S3 IS as well as a Fuji Finepix 2300. My most recent pics and those going forward have been taken with my Canon Digital Rebel XTi. I use the standard kit lens Canon EF (18-55mm) and the Canon EF 1:1.8 50mm. I am very excited because on Monday I will be inheriting two new Canon EF lense from my father in law :)…the Canon EF 75-300mm Zoom lens and the EF 28-90mm Zoom lens as well as some new filters. In addition to my digital cameras, i also use several vintage cameras including an altered Polaroid SX-70 land camera and my beloved Kodak Duaflex II. I adore my Duaflex II as it allows me to take unique shots with my digital and the Duaflex viewfinder. Some of you may recognize that camera as the one in the banner for PhotoFriday. I was getting frustated at first with my Duaflex because finding film for it was near impossible. I happened to stumble upon the photography of Alicia Bock who was using the same camera…and taking absolutely STUNNING images with it I might add…She was so kind enough to share her method and the Flickr group Through The ViewFinder. I was so extatic to be able to finally use this camera and have had so much fun experimenting with it. You can see examples of the photos I have taken with it in my store as well as my Gallery and Flickr page.

I also have several film cameras that I am constructing and hope to be experimenting with in the near future. I will be posting a complete list of my equiptment for those of you who are/were intersted in the Art & Photography section of my blog….hopefully I will get to that tonight after i catch up on some e-mails…
I should have some new pieces up tomorrow as well as some peeks into my art journal that I have started as part of my new years resolution. For now though I must get back to work….until later….

Lazy Sunday…

Dark Skies, Canon Digital Rebel XTi…Sarah e. Smith Photography
Today was a lazy sunday. I spend part of my morning at a local cemetery that I have not visited in about 5 years and I didn’t even get the chance to explore the majority of it. I was able to get some decent shots while I was there and also met another photographer who was very nice and also shares the same interest in cemetery photography as myself. Cemeteries are indeed my favorite places to take pictures, they are amazing examples of art, architecture and history. While shopping for Christmas this year, I stumbled upon a fabulous book titled Stories In Stone: A Field Guide to Cememtery Symbolism and Iconography by Douglas Keister. It is a wonderful pocket reference book, and I was pleasanly surprised that it contained several images and folklore from the cemetery I visted today.
The above photo is from one of the mausoleums there. Other than adjusting the photo to black and white, no other changes were made. I got lucky with my lighting today :)
I’ve got lots going on that I want to write about but it is way past my bedtime, so i am off to catch up on some zzz’s ;)

Sleepy…

This was one of my favorite pics I took with my old camera. I just rediscovered it again tonight while organizing my pictures…in an effort to stay true to my new years resolution. Hope all of your resolutions are still on track :) I’m off to watch an episode or two of Sex And The City and then off to bed….adieu for now…

Into The Swing of Things….

Comfy :), Canon Digital Rebel XTi
So I am finally getting back into the swing of things… After about a month and a half hiadus of creating anything new, I have my projects mapped out and I am ready to begin. It seems this time around, my dry spell was corrected by a bit of organization…goodness knows I need more of that in my life …hence this is one of my new years resolutions( I just hope I keep up with it!) :) Yeah…Belle Armoire has a sneak peak of my artcle on their website…you can check it out HERE.

I finally got round to taking a few self portrait pics with the new camera, I am simply smitten with the way that this camera takes pictures. I am still working on a new photo project, I hope to have completed soon. The photos will be available in limited edition prints, the timing is going to depend on whether or not the galleries who are interested in my portfolio choose to show the pieces, and what their stipulations are about selling the work on my site…..more to follow…
